60th-anniversary Edinburgh International Film Festival website now live
Line have today launched the 60th-anniversary Edinburgh International Film Festival website after the official press launch at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh.
Building on the success of last year's site, new features to increase the user experience and improve the business processes/admin of the EIFF have been added. Site visitors can now view trailers, uploaded directly by the film distributors, of many of this year's movies in advance of making a booking, whilst Delegates can register online for event passes instead of printing out paper forms and posting them to the EIFF to rekey.
Additionally, user feedback indicated that some help was needed when trying to plan their film viewing schedule as screening times can overlap and/or be in different venues across town. A new, completely accessible grid-style planner shows visually when the films are on and in which location.
The site still has all the capabilities of last year including a full movie catalogue directly uploaded from EIFF's FileMaker database, online ticket purchase, and content managed news and picture gallery updates.
UPDATE (15 July 2006)
The annual rush to book tickets for the Edinburgh International Film Festival started yesterday. Queues of people stretched round the block from the Box Office with staff having to hand out bottled water to counteract the effects of the heat. The majority of ticket buyers chose to book online from the relative comfort of their office or home though — 62.5% of all first day sales were online helping break the Festival's previous record.
This year's most popular events include the BAFTA interview with Sir Sean Connery, whilst Kevin Smith's sequel Clerks II has proved to be almost as popular a movie as last year's Serenity with extra screenings being laid on to try and satisfy demand.
